Dr. Abdul Hameed is an Assistant Professor at the Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan Institute of Sustainable Halophyte Utilization, University of Karachi, Pakistan. He obtained PhD degree from the University of Karachi in 2012. He was also a Fulbright visiting (postdoctoral) scholar at the Brigham Young University, Provo (USA) during 2021-2022. He is a plant eco-physiologist, interested in understanding the seed germination ecology and reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis of halophytes found in coastal sabkhas and inland hypersaline habitats. The aims of Dr. Hameed’s research are: a) to provide baseline information about mass-scale cultivation of halophytes by direct seeding method for agronomic/conservation purposes, b) to understand salinity tolerance mechanisms of halophytes and c) to improve salinity tolerance of cash crop halophytes by way of enhancing their antioxidant defense. So far, he has edited one book and published 51 research articles in renowned peer-reviewed journals (Impact factor = 89.12; h-index = 16) and books.
