Toward realizing the 2050 vision “A world of living in harmony with nature”, Ministry of the Environment in Japan has enacted legislation to designate Nationally Certified Sustainably Managed Natural Site to to achieve the challenging goal of converting 30% of land and sea areas into conservation areas (OECM) by 2030 (30 by 30). Tokiwa Forest at Tokiwadai campus of Yokohama National University was certified as a Nationally Certified Sustainably Managed Nature Site as the environment having “Value 4” and “Value 6” by Ministry of the Environment in early 2024 FY. “Value 4” is a place that provides ecosystem services and keeps health ecosystem consisting of a variety of plant and animal species, mainly native species, and “Value 6” is a place where rare plant and animal species grow and live. Tokiwadai Forest will be registered in an international database as OECM.
