The 14th Southeast Asian Biosphere Reserves Network (SeaBRnet) Meeting was held at the Hilton Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, from November 13th to 15th, 2023.
Southeast Asian Biosphere Reserves Network (SeaBRnet) is a regional effort focused on fostering collaboration and partnership among biosphere reserves in Southeast Asia. Biosphere reserves are designated areas acknowledged within the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB), with a primary mission to advance sustainable development, preserve biodiversity, and facilitate scientific exploration.
At this conference, Professor Hiroyuki Matsuda introduced Japan’s efforts in BR and MAB, as well as the purpose of the UNESCO Chair and the concept of Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES).
